All you need to know before enrollment

  • What is Archery Tag®?
Archery Tag® is the brand equipment for use in the sport of extreme archery.
  • What is the game?
Archery Tag® is now often used informally as a genericized trademark that has become synonymous for bow and arrow combat-type games in the USA and around the world as well as for the equipment used for the game. Archery Tag® is our brand of equipment used to play extreme archery. The game of extreme (combat) archery is a mix of dodgeball, paintball, and archery with players hitting each other with non-lethal arrows to score points or eliminate opposing team members. See game rules here.
  • What is Extreme Archery?
Extreme Archery is an action-packed, adrenaline-filled sport enjoyed by millions of people in 65 countries. Teams of generally five players on opposite sides of the field, separated by a 20-foot neutral zone, attempt to hit opposing players with non-lethal arrows. There two common types of gameplay: League Style (points) and Classic (elimination). Check out the rules here.
  • How close will someone be when they shoot at me?
The teams are separated by a 20-foot neutral zone (previously referred to as a “safe zone”), so the nearest anyone will shoot is 20 feet.
  • Do I need to wear safety gear?
Yes, a facemask. We suggest players remove jewelry, piercings, and headwear to avoid potential injury.
  • Who can play?
Anyone who can draw the bow. Extreme Archery is inclusive; anyone can participate, regardless of gender, age, socio-economic background, or athletic ability.
  • Is it safe?
Yes. With a stellar safety record since its inception in 2011, the Archery Tag® brand pioneered the exhilarating sport of extreme archery, while maintaining a focus on innovative product development and preserving the highest levels of safety. The gameplay is intense yet safe for participants.
  • Does it hurt to be hit with the arrow?
Well, it depends on where you are hit; some players may choose to wear a jockstrap. Otherwise, there is virtually no pain, and most say they are more surprised than anything when struck by an Archery Tag® arrow.
  • An Archery Tag® arrow hit is not like a paintball hit?
That is correct. Check out this video:
  • I am 12 years old, can I play?"
Yes. We offer a 20# Cadet bow and a 28# Pro bow. A 12-year-old can usually draw one of the other. We have had six-year-old kids play with the 20# bow. Your parents will be asked to sign a Waiver.
  • I am 80 years old, can I play?"
Yes! We had an 88-year-old grandmother play who nailed CEO John Jackson in the gut with an arrow. You will be asked to sign a Waiver.
  • Is it easier to learn?
    Yes.
  • What if I never shot a bow and arrow before?
Most have never picked up a bow and arrow before playing extreme archery. Learning to shoot is quick, easy, and usually becomes intuitive and improved during gameplay. Learn to shoot here:
  • How many people are usually on a team?
For optimal strategizing and teamwork, we recommend five (5) players per team.
  • How does a team win?
Depends on whether it is League Style (points) or Classic (elimination) gameplay. Check out the game rules here.
  • How long are games?
About 8 to 10 minutes. If there is a large group, it may be limited to less time.
  • What is the standard field size?
Teams compete on a field that measures 70 ft. (21 m.) by 30 ft. (9 m.). It consists of two action zones separated by a 20-foot neutral zone. Three bunkers placed strategically in each action zone and a 5-Spot Knockout Target at the neutral zone attack line finish out the standard field.
  • What is a non-lethal arrow?
The “NON-LETHAL ARROW” is an arrow with a soft, foam tip that was developed by John Jackson and is protected by U.S. PATENTS #8,449,413 and #8,932,159 for use in the sport of extreme archery.
  • What equipment is used during gameplay?
Archery Tag® bow, arrows, facemask, bunkers, and 5-spot knockout target.
